Fujitsu and Lenovo Achieve Postponement of Personal Computer Business Convergence Agreement

[Global Technology Reporter Wang Huan] According to a report from Kyodo News on March 28th, the final agreement that Fujitsu and the Lenovo Group of China had planned to merge in their personal computer business in March will be postponed until April. The general direction of maintaining Fujitsu's factory and employee employment has been determined, but details of the negotiations will still take some time.

The market share of Fujitsu and Lenovo in Japan will total more than 40%. According to the "Anti-Monopoly Law," the agreement will need to be reviewed by the Fair Trade Commission. The actual consolidation time may be further delayed.

The two companies announced in October last year that they will explore strategic cooperation, including mergers and acquisitions. Negotiations will be conducted in order to maintain Fujitsu's factory and employee employment in Ida City, Fukushima Prefecture, and Izumo City, Shimane Prefecture. Fujitsu will continue to use the brand known as “FMV”. The newly-established joint venture company is expected to have more than half of Lenovo's capital, and control the operating rights, and the rest will be financed by Fujitsu and the Japan Policy Investment Bank.
