HistoryView VR is an educational platform developed by Matterport that provides 3D virtual reality site visits for teachers and students. Through collaboration with museums and historical sites, HistoryView VR can bring a lively historical experience to classrooms around the world.
Elizabeth Bennott, founder and executive director of HistoryView VR, is a licensed teacher in Massachusetts and studied history at Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts. After graduating, she began to learn more about virtual reality and contact the immersive VR experience. In exploring this technology, she believes that VR education is very promising, especially for historical teachers using VR in the classroom. Elizabeth founded HistoryView in 2017, hoping to capture historical sites and museum exhibits for students to explore in VR.
Elizabeth’s enthusiasm and background for history and teaching, coupled with Matterport’s technology, has brought VR field visits and digital preservation to history education. HistoryView VR provides a virtual reality library of historical sites and museum exhibits that allow people from all over the world to access and experience history.
A capacitance switch needs only one electrode to function. The electrode can be placed behind a non-conductive panel such as wood, glass, or plastic. The switch works using body capacitance, a property of the human body that gives it great electrical characteristics. The switch keeps charging and discharging its metal exterior to detect changes in capacitance. When a person touches it, their body increases the capacitance and triggers the switch.
Capacitance switches are available commercially as integrated circuits from a number of manufacturers. These devices can also be used as a short-range proximity sensor.
