OSRAM Opto Semiconductors Introduces High Power Laser Products


In addition to the world's smallest surface-mounted continuous wave (CW) mode high-power lasers, OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has also introduced standard CS-packaged water-cooled vertical stacked semiconductor lasers and laser chips for the first time in Europe. Passive cooling and active cooling of SIRILAS products will be added to the OSRAM high-power product range.

OSRAM offers its customers a clearly structured product line portfolio that focuses on standard packaged products. Dr. Jorg Heerlein, Senior Manager of High Power Laser Diodes at OSRAM Opto Semiconductors, said: "We have a standard product line with different wavelengths and output power to guarantee a short delivery time. Of course, we can also provide customized solutions according to customer needs."

Continuous wave mode surface mount high power laser as a surface mount original for modern production processes such as reflow soldering. This compact laser emits light at a wavelength of 810 nm and a design output of 6W. Its high power and durability make it resistant to harsh environmental conditions such as industrial applications and mobile operations. Typical applications include high-volume applications such as night vision systems, traffic monitoring, and medical equipment.

The passively cooled laser diode on a solid copper heat sink (CS package) is in continuous wave mode with an optical output power of up to 50W. In the case where the water cooling method is not applicable, such as a portable system for medical products, the customer can select this product.

The water-cooled vertical stack laser includes 20 laser chips that operate in continuous wave mode or quasi-continuous wave mode. Its standard wavelength is 808, 915, 940 or 975 nm. Depending on the product model, the laminated laser output can reach up to kW and the service life can reach 10,000 hours. Stacked lasers are mainly used in solid-state laser high-power pump output systems, or directly in material processing and medical engineering.

SIRILAS is a new generation of packaged laser diodes. The actively cooled SIRILAS series integrates cooling ducts for efficient water cooling. The cooling pipe is designed to prevent corrosion. The hermetic package protects against dust and contact contamination. In addition, a parallel lens with a vertical scattering of no more than 1° can be produced by an integrated lens. This LED has a conversion efficiency of more than 50% and is an ideal pump source. The output power can be precisely adjusted according to the absorption line of the solid-state laser material. This reduces the thermal load on the solid-state laser medium and improves conversion efficiency and laser beam quality. The RayTools family integrates the SIRILAS series of laser diodes into the pump module. A single laser diode has an output power of 30W. If 10 LEDs are installed on one pump line, the output power can reach 300W. By combining multiple pump lines, a high power solid state laser can be obtained. This type of laser can be used in the processing of materials such as plastics and metal welding as a substitute for carbon dioxide lasers.
