Panasonic Devices Introduces Low DC Resistance Power Inductors

On the 15th, Panasonic Device Co., Ltd. introduced the “PCC-M0512W Series”, a power inductor (power choke coil) with the smallest DC resistor and the metal composite iron core structure. The DC resistance of the 3.3μH product is 80mΩ, a reduction of 10% to 20% over the company's previous product. The external dimensions are 5.4mm x 5.15mm x 1.2mm, the inductance value is 0.47-4.7μH, and the rated current is 2.2-5.5A. The DC-DC conversion circuit used mainly for hard disk drives (HDDs) such as smartphones, tablet terminals, and game consoles.

Panasonic introduced its components, said the company's metal composite core power inductor is a round wire coil, the user terminal and the metal composite core made of one. This time, Panasonic improved the coil winding method and the user terminal connection structure, and also developed an autonomous structure that can increase the internal copper wire capacity of the core. As a result, the lamination coefficient of the round wire coil (the ratio of the copper wire cross-sectional area of ​​the coil portion) is increased, and the DC resistance is reduced. In addition, the inductor height (maximum value) has been reduced from the original 1.85mm to 1.2mm by the coil winding method developed by Panasonic and the integrated molding method of the thin terminal and the metal composite core.

In addition, Panasonic reduces the loss at high frequencies by optimizing the particle size and structure of the metal magnetic powder that constitutes the metal composite core. Due to the use of metallic magnetic powders, the saturation magnetic flux density is high and therefore high currents can also be supported.

This time, Panasonic introduced five products with different performance parameters such as inductance values. For production start time, three products with inductance values ​​of 0.47μH, 3.3μH, and 4.7μH are scheduled for February 2012, and two products with inductance values ​​of 1.0μH and 2.2μH are scheduled for April 2012. The sample price is 50 yen/unit and the mass production scale is 2 million per month.
