In recent years, a number of institutions based on Philips, the founder of warm white light road lighting technology, conducted comprehensive tests in the warm white light streetlight area with pedestrian preference, recognition and motor vehicle driver response time. The test results show that the technology and products for large-scale application of warm white light illumination system have matured and will usher in the “golden development period” in the world.

Pedestrians prefer warm white light

The feeling of pedestrians is an important reference for the product development direction of road lighting system research and development institutions. In 2006, the Philips Public Lighting Centre in Lyon, France, conducted a field assessment of new and traditional road lighting systems. The test site is in the INSA campus and the sixth residential area of ​​Lyon, and the test targets students and local residents.

Test results show (see above - translated into Chinese): Compared with sodium lamps, most testers prefer to choose new road lighting systems such as warm white light systems and ceramic metal halide lamps; the least like fluorescent lamps and mercury-free sodium lamps. Because the warm white light road system is close to the sun in terms of light color reduction, it has no dispersion and is easily felt by the optic nerve. After installing a warm white light road lighting system in the residential area of ​​Redbridge, East London, parked vehicles, pedestrians, etc. are more clearly visible. Under the “light day”, people’s sense of security has been improved. At the same time, due to the reduction of the number of lamps by 20%, the electricity consumption has also decreased.
Not long ago, Antwerp, Belgium installed a warm white lighting system on a boulevard on the east bank of the Schelde River. The previously installed metal halide lamp and the traditional magnetic ballast system have problems of heat generation and service life. Finally, the competent department switched to the Philips warm white lighting system. The results show that the system is nearly 30% more efficient than metal halide lamps and has a long service life (12,000 hours).
