Film scanner

The Film Scanner, a film/transparent film scanner, is also based on a CCD sensor, but it uses a more sensitive sensor and has a higher resolution. Therefore, it can more ideally digitize small-size transmission originals. Many of these types of scanners have a sufficiently wide dynamic range to enable it to capture the full range of tonality of a typical transmissive document. In fact, in most commercial color printing jobs, it is difficult to tell whether an image was scanned by a drum scanner or scanned by a film/light transmissive scanner with a high quality sensor. Mid-range and high-grade film/transparent film scans can automatically correct the color cast that appears on the negative film.
