OSRAM Optoelectronics develops compact, multi-color LEDs

OSRAM Opto Semiconductors has developed the smallest RGB MultiChip LED. This product is especially suitable for large-size, high-resolution, full-color screens, ensuring clear viewing at close range. Because this component is very compact, it can accommodate a large number of pixels even in a small screen area. Installed in a black package, this LED provides virtually no ambient light and delivers contrast-rich, colorful light.

The latest RGB product package developed by OSRAM Opto Semiconductors is compact and has an area of ​​only 1.6mm x 1.6mm and a height of only 0.9mm. The pixel pitch of this LED can be as small as 2mm, so even a very small screen can accommodate A large number of pixels. For example, the screen area within 10m? is enough to accommodate more than two million pixels to display HDTV pictures. The system brightness of a 2.5x4.0m screen can reach 1500-2500cd/m?, which is about ten times the brightness of a normal LCDTFT screen.

Thanks to specially developed packaging materials, this product has perfect color mixing performance. From any angle, the color appearance can be kept constant, even when viewed from the side, the picture is still vivid. Since the LED is mounted in a black package, it will hardly reflect any ambient light, so the picture quality will not be affected.

The MultiChipLED is internally packaged in red, blue and yellow chips made from Thinfilm and ThinGaN. At 20mA operating current, the typical luminous intensities of the chips in the RGB LED are 250mcd (red), 350mcd (green), and 70mcd (blue), respectively. The typical efficiency of this luminous intensity is 4 cd/W, which corresponds to a luminous efficiency of 12 lm/W. The LED has a beam angle of +/- 60°.
