With the recovery of the consumer industry, TV manufacturers are looking for the latest technology to support all of China's TV broadcast signals and work patterns, while reducing production costs and shortening time to market. In addition, the ultra-thin TV exhibited at CES this year will also drive semiconductor manufacturers to introduce thinner and lighter devices.
Maitong recently launched a cost-effective DTV receiver chip solution for the Chinese market. It combines a tuner and a demodulator (Demod) into one. The highly integrated DTV chip solution can be used at home and abroad. TV manufacturers simplify TV front-end design, reduce costs and increase reliability; enable Chinese TV manufacturers to offer superior terrestrial and cable TV reception products for any size, model and price.
Key features: integrated modem
The high-performance receiver chip solution from Maitong consists of one of the MT3141 multi-standard radio frequency (RF) receiver chip and the new MT886x family of demodulator. The chip solution is based on the market-recognized technology and complies with China's digital TV terrestrial transmission standard GB20600-2006 (CTTB / DTMB); it exceeds the RF and channel demodulation requirements of the China Electronics Standardization Institute (CESI).
“Generally speaking, the chip solutions of other manufacturers are pure tuner or demodulator. The most important breakthrough of the company is to combine the tuner and analog TV demodulator into one.†Pete Birch, Director and Global DTV Business General Manager, said that the chipset is based on the new MT3141 receiver from Maitong and includes one of the four CTTB-compliant channel demodulators in the MT886x family. The patented technology that adapts to the Demodulation and Equalization (FADE) architecture has excellent performance and greatly enhances the TV reception capability of end users.
The MT3141 is a complete RF-to-baseband, single-chip, multi-standard (terrestrial and wired) tuner with integrated PAL/SECAM/NTSC analog demodulator. The MT3141 is designed with excellent sensitivity and high adjacent-frequency rejection. The excellent comprehensive technical specifications can be directly converted into DTV signal coverage and TV reception quality. The D886 chipset MT886x series is designed to minimize the amount of external materials required. Each of these products integrates memory that supports all CTTB modes of operation in China and Hong Kong, and is a true system-on-a-chip. By integrating memory on silicon, Maitong has reduced bill of materials and protected TV manufacturers from price fluctuations in the DRAM market. Often, price fluctuations can affect product vendors that use optional system-in-package (SIP) or multi-chip solution (MCM) technology.
“Being integrated with the tuner and demodulator brings double advantages in terms of technology and cost. The customer responded very well to this solution. MT3141 is only the first in this series, and there will be other national standard products in the future. "Listing," Pete Birch said, "We designed the series to be compatible, and customers don't need to differentiate between different countries and regions; help TV manufacturers save on field and design costs, improve overall production control and design quality. In addition, the MT3141 provides world-class receiver solutions for Chinese TV manufacturers looking to open up overseas markets."
Target application: local triple play
At present, China has proposed a strategy to accelerate the “three networks integrationâ€. Pete Birch said that the latest MT3141 chip is prepared for this trend: First, the chip can directly support the set-top box solution, its QAM256 and QAM64 have excellent performance; secondly, it integrates OOB specifically for this market (Out -of-Band) Channel functions such as OOB-specific low power amplifiers and their corresponding filters. In this way, the chip can be directly applied to the "triple play" digital interactive set-top box. The traditional basic set-top box only needs one tuner because it is only used for receiving; in the high-definition era, operators hope to add value-added services, such as video or picture-in-picture, so the demand has changed from one tuner to two. One. For cable TV set-top boxes, the US market is all silicon tuners, manufacturers have not considered the Can tuner solution. The Chinese market is just getting started. In fact, it is in the process of converting the silicon tuner from the Can tuner. In this case, the silicon tuner has a lot of room for development, but the transformation in China takes about 8 months to 2 years.
Pete Birch also pointed out that many local manufacturers in the market have their own modem solutions, and due to some policy advantages, the promotion in the domestic market is relatively easy. For Maitong, Maitong's products are designed, produced, packaged in China, and sold and supported in China. In fact, it is not very different from local manufacturers. "Although there may be some pressure on the policy level, I am optimistic about the high performance and low cost advantages of the chip. For the Chinese market, Maitong has developed two generations of digital TV chips, and this time it was released for The third-generation digital TV chip of China's digital TV standard. Moreover, all products for the Chinese market are developed in China," Pete Birch said.
